Posting Date

During three days, from May 26 to May 28 2015, a financial management training was held by the Samdhana Institute. Its activities centered at the Novotel Surabaya in Surabaya city. The training was joined by 9 Samdhana partner institutions in Indonesia with as main mentor Sakuntala Tanudjaja of Samdhana.

The Samdhana Institute thinks it necessary to have these trainings in order to create good and accountable civil society organizations, through improving the financial management capacity of partner organizations.

Transparency and accountability for funds received from donors is needed. Transparency and accountability are important to how a public institution is accountable to its appropriate function and its role in society and the donor agencies.

realize a good and accountable organization, each organization must have a financial system that ensures any funds raised are used in accordance with its designation and its objectives, and hereby thus ensuring accountability for all parties.

The training aims to provide an understanding to partners in Indonesia on matters relating to financial reporting. Partners provide insight to the terms and provisions of relevant financial reporting and supporting documents to Samdhana.

The training further gives an understanding to partners on the importance of understanding and implementating the organization's policies related to both finance systems and procedures. The partners also provide insight to how important it is to use the financial statements as a management tool for decision making.

The trainees are expected to have their abilities and capacity of understanding and implementing financial systems and processes increased, particularly in terms of reporting on grants. Thus the training is expected to improve the financial management systems of the partners.
