Emergency Food Relief Distribution in Coron, Palawan

Posting Date
Mr. Romulo Abela, a Tagbanua resident of Brgy. Turda, in Coron, Palawan, greeted the Samdhana-Christian Aid team during our food relief distribution on January 8, 2014. Being one of the oldest resident in this particular sitio, Tatay Romulo was given priority in the line. Tatay could not see very well anymore. He was one of those who went through the wrath of super typhoon Yolanda, being directly hit as his house was along the shoreline. Tatay was afraid that he would not be able to receive any relief pack, because when there was a distribution earlier by a church and the LGU, their sitio was not included. When Tatay Romulo learned that he was one of those in the list of the affected households, he was extremely happy and grateful. He sat there and said an earnest prayer of thanks for the assistance. During the ten minutes or so that the relief team were setting up, Tatay Romulo was there in his seat, continuing to pray and give thanks.

The priority sitios that were served in Brgy. Turda were Maralitin, Bayuko, Depuyad, and Mabunungin, all located right along the shoreline. Many of the men were out during the time of the distribution since they were out fishing. We learned that when fish catch is low, they resort to capturing giant squid and octopus, both for family consumption and for selling. A total of 113 Tagbanua families received food packs in Turda.
