Biography
Agni Malagina is a vibrant and inspiring Indonesian cultural activist known for her deep commitment to youth empowerment and heritage preservation. She is celebrated for her ability to engage young people and bring together diverse communities around social, cultural, and developmental issues. With a background in Sinology and extensive experience as a researcher, writer, tourism planner, and community development worker, Agni brings a dynamic, cross-sectoral approach to her work. Her leadership style and broad network are seen as valuable assets to initiatives like Samdhana, where her fresh perspectives and collaborative spirit can catalyze meaningful change.
Since 2015, Agni has focused on the culturally rich area of Lasem in Central Java, where she has championed the preservation of Chinese-Indonesian heritage and batik traditions. She co-founded Yayasan Lasem Heritage in 2016, leading community-based programs and managing the multifunctional Nyah Lasem museum. Her work has helped position Lasem for national recognition as a heritage site and has revived interest in its unique cultural landscape. Agni’s dedication has earned her national accolades, including being named one of the Resilient and Inspiring Women by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and one of the 10 Inspiring Women by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Through storytelling, advocacy, and inclusive development, she continues to safeguard cultural heritage while empowering local youth and driving sustainable growth.
