Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025: Mobilising Creatives, Communities, and Climate Solutions

From September 23  to October 5, 2025, Bangkok stepped into the global stage for reimagining a greener, more resilient Southeast Asia, with the city-wide Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025 (BKKCAW).

BKKCAW 2025 is all about action showing that climate change is real. It brings nonprofits, community leaders, experts, artists, activists, policymakers, and the public together to showcase and co-create meaningful climate solutions.

It kicked off with the opening parade on September 28, 2025 from Wat Saket Ratchaworamahawihan to Museum Siam, the central hub for the week’s activities. The parade actively promoted the "Bangkok Car-Free Everyday" campaign. Participants were running, kayaking, and cycling along the Ong Ang Canal and through Bangkok's historic district. The parade highlighted the push to reduce private car use and raise public awareness about climate change.

The official opening ceremony at Museum Siam was set up as an accessible outdoor fair, presenting the BKKCAW's goals through interactive activities, panel discussions, poetry readings, musical performances, and exhibitions showcasing eco-friendly products and green innovations.

Leo Horn-Phathanothai, Founder and Convener of Bangkok Climate Action Week, reiterated the message that climate action should be a collective, engaging, inclusive, and accessible effort for everyone. The mission is simple yet ambitious: climate action isn’t just for policymakers, it’s a whole-of-society effort.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Goodwill Ambassador Alex Rendell, and writer and documentary producer Singh Wannasingh, along with other prominent speakers, actors, singers, and environmentalists were also speakers during the opening.

Inspired by London Climate Action Week, Europe’s largest independent climate gathering, Bangkok’s version is organised by Just Transitions Incubator (JUTI) in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and BACC.

Over 200 events happened across the city throughout the week. With a diverse line-up of events, such as art installations, performances and concerts, talks and marketplaces across the city, BKKCAW sought to inspire, educate, and mobilise urgent climate action through collaboration, creativity, and community building.

There were hands-on workshops, and inspiring art performances designed to drive the transformative change needed to build a sustainable future for Bangkok and the Southeast Asian region — celebrating local leadership and collective imagination to shape a climate-safe, inclusive future.
